1. Before you travel
There are different rules for different foreign visitors to Indonesia. Most countries get a free 30 day visa while other countries need to apply for a visa before travelling.

Regardless what country you are from and what visa you will be getting there are a few things every foreign visitor needs before travelling to Indonesia.
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
- A passport that has at least one complete blank page.
- Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
If the immigration officer has a suspicion that you may abuse the free visa you might also be asked for proof of sufficient funds to stay in Indonesia for the duration of your visa.
The Indonesia Visa is counted per day, not per night. Your first day and last day are included in the 30 day calculation. Even if you enter Indonesia at 23:55h (11:55pm), the last 5 minutes before midnight will still be considered a full day. The same for your departure.
This visa is for a single entry visit. Every time you exit and re-enter Indonesia you will get a new 30 day free visa.
2. Indonesia Visa Free Entry for 169 countries

This rate is the same for any passenger of any age. Infants need to pay this visa fee as well. The Indonesia visa on arrival can be extended once by another 30 days. The Indonesia visa fee can be paid in cash or credit card. If you pay with cash you can use US Dollars or any other major currency. You will find a piece of paper at the VOA payment counter with the current price in your currency.
4. Extend your Indonesia Visa
There are some options to extend your 30 day tourist visa although it depends what country you are from. 67 Visa on arrival country can extend their visa once. The extension costs USD 35 so in total you are paying USD 70 for a 60 day stay. After 60 days you will need to leave the country. Alternatively any of the above countries can do a “visa run” to extend their visa. A visa run is usually done in one day. You leave the country on a budget flight to the nearest overseas airport. You can leave on a morning flight and return on an afternoon flight.
5. Other countries
If your country is not listed above then you will need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling to Indonesia.
6. Overstay penalty
If you overstay your visa then the official penalty is Rp 1,000,000 per day you have overstayed (previously 300,000 per day).
The maximum allowed time you can overstay is 60 days. If you have overstayed your Indonesia visa for more than 60 then you are in the country without valid visa. The punishment for not having a valid visa is a maximum 5 years sentence or maximum Rp 500,000,000 penalty. (article #119 of UU 6/2011). Lebanon is in the list of visa free countries. You can find a copy of the Indonesian law on http://topbali.com/indonesia-free-visa-entry/. Lebanon is mentioned on page 7, country #78
I am a Colombian citizen living in China, I need a visa to enter Indonesia, although I am not sure on wether or not I can apply for an Indonesian visa from a third country; since I am planning to apply from either Singapore or Vietnam
You can visit the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore to apply for a visa to Indonesia.
Hi…Bro
I’m have passport valid for a 1year then I’m booking return ticket
Then I’m booking hotel 3 days after I’m stay my frend home I’m change dollar $35 then jakarta airport I’m arrived then I want to go batam airport what is the rouls please reply
Hi Shafi, I am sorry but I don’t understand your question. If your question is about the tourist visa then you can find the answer in the above article.
Instead of all the bother and cost , for the same money get a return to Kuala Lumpur in Maleisia by Air Asia have some days there and come back for your second 30 day . Accomodation can be very cheap look at http://www.booking.com !
Do you need to show an onward ticket on arrival?
You are required to have an onward ticket. Generally immigration officers do not ask to see your onward ticket but they do ask on occasion. If it is not practical to buy an onward ticket you could buy a cheap promo ticket to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore that you don’t mind loosing this. You could also ignore the onward ticket and play innocent if they catch you. Apologise and then buy an onward ticket online before you go through immigration (you will need your tablet or smartphone).
Hi,
I am Australian, have already booked plane ticket to Bali and return to Australia, in total 56 days in Indonesia leaving 22/12/2016. Was not aware of the 30 day max stay. What is the best way to enable me to stay for the full term. have tried many times to ring consulate for more information but goes to message.
1/ Will I be allowed into Indonesia with the flights I have currently booked.
2/ Can I get extended Visa on or after arrival to Indonesia.
Thanking You Robert
Hi Robert, when you arrive in Bali make sure you buy the 30 day Visa On Arrival. This visa allows you to extend by another 30 days giving you total 60 days. When you enter the arrival terminal there will be a desk before you get to the immigration counter. At this desk you can buy the visa on arrival. This visa costs USD 35 for 30 days. The extension will need to be done at the immigration office in either Jimbaran or Denpasar. The extension will cost you another USD 35. The extension will start from day 30 of your first visa. You can start the extension process any time during your visit but not later than 1 week before your first visa expires. Other than this you can also apply for a 60 day tourist visa before travelling at your nearest Indonesian Embassy.
Hi Ketut,
So I’ve been doing my research to travel to Indonesia and noticed that some sites do not include Portugal as a visa-free country on the lists. I see it here that it is included on your list, can you please confirm whether this is the case or provide other links I can also double check just to be on the safe side ? thank you very much
Hello Jess, Portugal is included in the list of 169 visa free countries. You can find a copy of the law on this page (http://www.topbali.com/indonesia-free-visa-entry/). Portugal is on page 8, country number 116.
Hello,
I am a Belgian national travelling to Sam Ratulangi airport. I understand I can enjoy a free visa entry.
What is not clear to me is whether I still have to present myself and apply for the visa at the booth that gives out the VOA, or if there will be a seperate booth for the free visa, of if I can proceed immediately to the passport and customs officers.
Thank you very much for information on this question.
Beste Geert, if you enter Bali on a 30 day free visa you can skip the VOA counter and head straight to the immigration counter. I am pretty sure it is similar in Manado.
Hello again,
I have just returned from my visit to Manado. I can confirm that one can go immediately to the immigration desk for visa free entry. As a matter of fact, the VOA booth was still there, but with no one in it…
Thank you for your help.
Thank you very much for letting us know how it went. I am glad it all worked out well for you.
Hello there, I am a Bangladeshi citizen studying and living in Malaysia. I am planning to visit Bali next year. Do I need to submit any documents while getting my Visa On Arrival at Bali? If so, then what are the documents I should be taking before I leave? Thank You !!
You will need;
A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
A passport that has at least one complete blank page.
Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
Hi ketut, I’m from Chile and I can only get 30 days visa but I need to stay almost 60 days for martial arts training,if I leave bali then get back in 1 day they give me 30days new free visa? On that case which is the closest place to go? Thank you very much, cheers.
Yes you can leave and return the same day. Singapore or Kuala Lumpur are nearby. When you enter Singapore or Kuala Lumpur for a “visa run” it is better you tell the Singapore or Kuala Lumpur immigration agent that the purpose of your very short visit is shopping. There has recently been a Dutch national who was refused entry in Singapore because he was only there to do a visa run.
can you be more specific on which all airports i can fly to where i have visa free entry? I am from kazakhstan. Some websites say differently.
You can find the complete list of airports in the blog post above under chapter two.
Hi, i’m belong form Nepal, i have a planning to visit Bali up coming days.

hello,
I am citizen of Uzbekistan who are working in South Korea.
I will have conference in Bali, do I need to recieve Visa on arrival or Visa free.
Please help. Due to fly to Bali next week with family (UK passports) on the 30 day free entry. After a few days I have a job interview in another country for a few days so will have to leave Bali and family and then re enter. Do I just get another 30 day free entry visa on my return? Thanks
Yes, you can enter on a free 30 day visa, leave within 30 days and then return on a new 30 day free visa.
Hello! Is it really enough if the passport is valid min 6 months from the date of arrival in Indonesia but not also the date of return from Indonesia? My passport will be valid for more than 6 months when I will arrive in Indonesia but it will have less than 6 months validity left at the date of my return home and I m afraid I might encounter problems in the airport.
Moreover, when travelling within Indonesia, is it a problem if my passport has less than 6 months validity?
Thank you!
The 6 month rule is from the day you arrive in Indonesia. If you arrive in Indonesia and you have less than 6 months from the day you arrive in Indonesia you will be refused entry.
Hi,
I am a China passport holder. I am going to Indonesia to visit my sisters. I intend to enter the country using Visa on arrival of 30days, and will apply for extension of another 30 days. My question is:
1. If I don’t have the returned ticket on my arrival, will I have any problem at the immigration? The reason why I don’t buy the return ticket is because there are few places I will be going to in Indonesia for visiting and I don’t know where I will be at the end of the trip
2. When I apply for the visa extension, how soon can I do it? Can I apply for it as soon as I land in Indonesia? Or I must wait until my visa about to expire?
You need a return flight out of the country otherwise they may refuse entry. If you are not sure yet then you can just buy the cheapest ticket available with the understanding that you may loose that ticket (but at least you will be allowed in the country).
As for the extension you can start the extension process any time and latest 7 days before the expiry from your first visa. When you extend the next 30 days will start from the end f your first 30 days regardless when you extend.
Hi, I am holding a UK passport and am legible for a 30day visa free entry. Does this allow multiple entries within Bali within those 30days?
It is a single entry visit. When you leave the country and re-enter you will receive a new 30 day visa.
Hi . I would like to know how much money I should hve for my needs that immigration will be expecting from me . Bcuz I can’t carry more as money . Like in Singapore they just ask if do hve like 1000 Singapore dollars. So if I hve planned to stay for a week so how much am supposed to carry in hand like 1000 dollars. ?? Or more
You can carry maximum Rp 100,000,000 in cash or the equivalent of this amount in a different currency. If you carry more that this amount then you need to notify customs when you enter Indonesia.
hi i am srilankan business man wanted to visit Jakarta and bali do i need a visa or can i obtain an on arrival visa pls do advice
If your nationality is one of the 169 visa free countries then you are eligible for a free 30 day visa upon arrival. If not then you need to apply for a visa before travelling.
Hi Ketut,
In the visa free case, is it necessary to have a return ticket departing from the SAME airport/harbor Indonesia was entered?
Thanks
Hello Michael, not at all. You can depart from any International airport, harbor or landcrossing within Indonesia. If you are on the free visa make sure you leave from an exit that is able to process free visas (see list in post).
Hi, I am a citizen of Bangladesh. For tourism purpose I have purchased air tickets for bali. As we do not have direct flight so I have purchased ticket from DHAKA-KUALA LUMPUR by Malindo air and KUALA LUMPUR-BALI by Air Asia on same date. Please tell me do I need to take visa from Malaysia also during my short transit (3 hrs) to go to bali?
Hello Farhad, I am unsure what the visa requirements in Malaysia are for Bangladesh citizens. For this reason I do not know the answer to your question. Maybe you can go on TripAdvisor Malaysia forum and ask your question there. Good luck 🙂
I am from nepal currently working in dubai. How can i go to indonesia. I wanna visit bali soon. Do i have to apply for visa. I saw nepal in visa free countries list, does that mean i can get visa on arrival. Thanks

A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
A passport that has at least one complete blank page.
Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
Hi We are coming to Indonesia in a couple of weeks. All the replies above confirm we can now obtain a 30 day free visa when entering through Manado airport. Is there a separate desk for the issue of free Visas or is it the same desk as those paying for the Visa. I know there was a separate desk in Jakarta last year when we came but I was wondering whether a separate desk is used at Manado. I do not what to stand in a queue and upon reaching the front and desk find I am at the incorrect desk for free visas. thank you
Hello Irene, I can only comment on how it goes in Bali. Here there are two counters. The first counter is where you pay the Visa On Arrival (if needed). The second counter is where the immigration officers are. If you do not need to pay for the visa on arrival in Bali you can just walk straight passed it. If you are on the free visa you need to get to the immigration counter. I hope this somewhat helps and we would love to hear back from you after you went through the Manado airport. Enjoy your trip!
please am from Ghana how can I go about this free visa to Indonesia?? do I have to apply for the visa or I will receive it when I reach Indonesia??
If your nationality is one of the 169 visa free countries (see point 2 above) then you are eligible for a free 30 day visa upon arrival providing you make follow the pre-requirements (see point 1 above).
Hi,
I am Indian citizen ,
I have only international Debit card with me … is it ok for making payment instead of credit card ..
Bcs I am now not able to collect credit card from bank
I am not sure if you can pay by debit card but if I had to guess I would say no. You can pay in cash instead or just use the 30 day free visa if you plan to stay no more than 30 days.
Hi,
I am from South Africa and will be in Bali for 3 months studying at the Stenden Campus. What type of visa application should I make? Where should I make such application and what cost would be involved?
Best regards
Morgan
Hi Morgan, Stenden University will be able to answer your questions best.
Hello! I’m from Finland and coming to Indonesia for one month, so I won’t need to get a visa upfront. But do I need passport pictures etc. for entering the country? Or is it enough if I have a passport that is valid for over 6 months afterwords and has a blank page and a return flight ticket to show? Thank you!
Hello Katariina, you do not need passport pictures for the 30 day tourist visa. Have a wonderful trip!
Great! I couldn’t find the answer from the Finnish pages, this was much more easier, thanks a lot!
Hi friend,
I am an Indian and wish to travel Balikpapan to see and spend some days with my wife and daughter. I want to stay there upto 60 days and for that, is it necessary to pay USD 70 at the first time of arrival? or first want to take 30 days VOA and before its validity ends, can extend to other 30 days by paying Extra USD 35?
How the monetary transaction taken placing? I Have Indian VISA card available. Is it sufficient? or want to exchange cash from the airport itself?
Thank You
You can pay the first 30 days for a Visa On Arrival at USD 35. This visa can be extended once by another 30 days. You cannot pay USD 70 upon arrival and get immediately two months. You first enter on the first 30 days and then visit the immigration office to extend by another 30 days. The process of extending can be done any time but latest one week before your first 30 days expire. When you extend the extension will start after day 30 (not from the day you extend) so you will have 60 days in total. In Bali you can pay the USD 35 visa on arrival fee by credit card.
Thank you
I am an Australian travelling in Australian passport. I will be visiting and attending meetings with an associated office of my Company in Jakarta for 3 days in November. Do I need to apply a visa or am I subject to the 30-day visa free entry into Indonesia?
The free 30 day visa can be used for the purpose of “Attend a meeting held by Head office or Representative office in Indonesia” so that would apply to you.
Hi, Greetings, I am from India Visiting Bali for a Conference, Hope i can avail the Free 30 Days Visa, on my Arrival to Denpasar Bali Airport, if i meet all the requirements in point no 1. Is it free to get Indian Rupees, USD exchanged there in airport or local Bureu de exchanges.
Regards
There are 2 official money exchange offices just after you exit the international arrival terminal building through the glass sliding doors. There are also a couple of ATM’s available.
Hi… I am an Indian, my wife is Indonesian, i do understand 30 days free visa rule, can I extend my visa after staying 30 days in Indonesia or need 60 days visa in India from Indonesian embassy, or any other rule, kindly suggest me for same…
Hello Anis. The free 30 day visa cannot be extended. After 30 days you have to leave the country. You could leave Indonesia in the morning and return to Indonesia in the afternoon. If you have the India nationality you can also choose to pay for the USD 35 visa on arrival. This visa is valid for 30 days and is extendable once by another 30 days. Alternatively you can also apply for a 60 day tourist visa before travelling at the nearest Indonesian Embassy.
Hi I’m a Canadian citizen. I’m going to travel to Indonesia with my family for about 2 months. However, between our Indonesia vacation, we planning to visit Singapore and Malaysia for 5 days. If I exit Indonesia and return in couple of days, do I get another free 30 days visa?
Thank you in advance.
Hi Nat, as a Canadian, every time you exit and re-enter you will get a new 30 day free visa.

Hi. I am a South African citizen and will be entering Indonesia on multiple occasions while travelling on consecutive cruises. Does the 30 day visa allow multi entry or will I require a new visa each time? s it possible to apply for a multi entry visa in South Africa? Kind regards, Jacques
If you are entering on a visa on arrival (either free or paying USD 35) then this is a single entry visa. If you are from South Africa then you are eligible to the free 30 day visa.
So if my nationality is mentioned in free visa entry and not in visa in arrival, means, i dont need to apply for visa requirements anymore ryt?
Example:palestine to indonesia
If you are from Palestine you can only get the free 30 day visa which is issued on arrival.

The important thing here is your nationality (not the country where you live).
Hi, we are 5 persons travelling to Malaysia for leisure and visiting friends. 3 of us are Danish citizens and 2 of us have Pakistani passports but have permits to stay in Denmark.
Denmark is on your list, but Pakistan is not.
We are not sure where to apply in Denmark for tourist visa for entry in Malaysia for our Pakistani friends.
Hello Anne, this website is about Bali and Indonesia (not Malaysia).
Hi again, sorry but we are also visiting Bali, artiving from Malaysia in November this year. Hope you canhelp us.
I am from Saudi Arabia. My passport is only valid for 3 months. I will only stay for 18 days Indonesia, with confirmed flight booking. Can I get the visa-free entry?
Thank you,
You are required to have minimum 6 months validity in your passport from the day you enter Indonesia. If you have less than 6 months validity then you will not be allowed to enter the country.
Hi Ketut
I’m from Pakistan and want to visit Indonesia. So when Pakistan will appear in your visa free countries list? Indonesian embassy in Pakistan told me that they will update the list and it will appear there. Hope for your kind response

With the current regulations; if you are from Guinea then you need to apply for a visa before travelling at the nearest Indonesian Embassy.
I am from Bangladesh. I heard lots of news and indonesian embassy in my country says we can get free visit visa. But currently I am studying another country. I am planning to go Bali next month for a week. So should I directly book ticket and go bali then take VOA? or I need to go to the embassy where I am living now. I just worried is there any hidden requirements or not.
Thank you
Hello Novel, if your country is one of the 169 visa free countries (see point 2 above) then you are eligible for a free 30 day visa providing you make follow the pre-requirements (see point 1 above).
Indian citizens dont have to pay anything as visa fee,is that the case?? Iam reading many other articles and i am confused if i have to or not.
If you are from India you can get a free 30 day tourist visa. Many websites show old information. This website is current.
Hey there
I am a Srilankan passport holder and I see my country is listed in the 30 day free-visa criteria. I am staying in Indonesia for a period of 30 days + 8 days. Can the 30 day free visa still be applied to me?
The free 30 day visa is for maximum 30 days. This includes your first day and last day in Indonesia. This free visa cannot be extended. To get the 30 day free visa on arrival you may be asked to show your return flight home when entering Indonesia. If the immigration officer notices that your return flight home exceeds 8 days over 30 days you may be denied the 30 day free visa. There is also an option for a 60 day tourist visa. You must apply for this 60 day tourist visa at your nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling to Indonesia.
I’ve read through all the comments (you are very patient in answering questions), but couldn’t find any information on whether it is possible to enter and exit the country through different airports or if you need to exit from the same airport as you entered?
The official web pages have me somewhat confused.
Hello Niklas, you can arrive through one airport and depart from another.
Hi…so if you are eligible for the free entry stamp…and then overstay by couple of days…is it treated the same way as an overstay of paid VOA…and no hassle just Rps 300,000?…or is this different when you have no official visa stamp?
Yes, the same penalty of Rp 300,000 per day applies to either the free visa or the paid visa. If you are on a free visa your passport still gets stamped.
