1. Before you travel
There are different rules for different foreign visitors to Indonesia. Most countries get a free 30 day visa while other countries need to apply for a visa before travelling.
By Twofortnights – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, Link
Regardless what country you are from and what visa you will be getting there are a few things every foreign visitor needs before travelling to Indonesia.
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia.
- A passport that has at least one complete blank page.
- Proof of a return flight or onward flight out of Indonesia.
If the immigration officer has a suspicion that you may abuse the free visa you might also be asked for proof of sufficient funds to stay in Indonesia for the duration of your visa.
The Indonesia Visa is counted per day, not per night. Your first day and last day are included in the 30 day calculation. Even if you enter Indonesia at 23:55h (11:55pm), the last 5 minutes before midnight will still be considered a full day. The same for your departure.
This visa is for a single entry visit. Every time you exit and re-enter Indonesia you will get a new 30 day free visa.
2. Indonesia Visa Free Entry for 169Â countries

This rate is the same for any passenger of any age. Infants need to pay this visa fee as well. The Indonesia visa on arrival can be extended once by another 30 days. The Indonesia visa fee can be paid in cash or credit card. If you pay with cash you can use US Dollars or any other major currency. You will find a piece of paper at the VOA payment counter with the current price in your currency.
4. Extend your Indonesia Visa
There are some options to extend your 30 day tourist visa although it depends what country you are from. 67 Visa on arrival country can extend their visa once. The extension costs USD 35 so in total you are paying USD 70 for a 60 day stay. After 60 days you will need to leave the country. Alternatively any of the above countries can do a “visa run” to extend their visa. A visa run is usually done in one day. You leave the country on a budget flight to the nearest overseas airport. You can leave on a morning flight and return on an afternoon flight.
5. Other countries
If your country is not listed above then you will need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling to Indonesia.
6. Overstay penalty
If you overstay your visa then the official penalty is Rp 1,000,000 per day you have overstayed (previously 300,000 per day).
The maximum allowed time you can overstay is 60 days. If you have overstayed your Indonesia visa for more than 60 then you are in the country without valid visa. The punishment for not having a valid visa is a maximum 5 years sentence or maximum Rp 500,000,000 penalty. (article #119 of UU 6/2011). You will need to visit the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore to apply for a visa before travelling.
Hi I am an Indian Citizen living in Australia. I am travelling to Bali from Australia and then I will go back on the same date to Australia(Just stay at Bali for 8 hours). Please let me know that is Free Visa condition imposed. What is the meaning of Free Visa(Do I need to pay any cost if yes then Australian Dollar or Indian Rupees can be accepted at Airport)
As an Indian citizen you will get a free visa entry. You do not have to pay.
Have flights booked into and return from Jakarta in February of 2018. I will be visiting remote islands and in Indonesia for 34 days total. How is the VOA updated, do I have to visit an office or can I pay for 60 days upon arrival? I am from USA and eligible for free 30 day visa which I have always used in the past but am in country for 34 days this trip.
I suggest you apply for a 60 day tourist visa before travelling. You can get more info at your nearest Indonesian Embassy.
Hello. I am coming to DPS from Australia and then transiting to Tokyo within 2 hours, i already have the boarding pass and documents. Will i still need to get a visa and go through immigration? I
If you are transiting in Jakarta on the same airline travelling on 1 ticket then you are just in transit and will not need to enter/exit Indonesia through immigration. If you have booked 2 separate flights on separate airlines then you will enter Indonesia through immigration and you will need a visa (which happens to be free to Australians as long as you stay no more than 30 days).
I am a Ghanaian and football manager of a football player in indonesia jarkata. am to come over and sign some agreement with the footclub of my player. this will take some few days to do.what type of visa do i need to come.

We are a retired couple with 2 pensions and 2 social security benefits every month. We have already booked our tickets to Bali from the USA from January 30,2018 until March 24, 2018. I should have looked up visas but we travel often to Europe and don’t need so I didn’t even think about it. Is there anyone we could hire to help us get the correct paperwork for our trip? We plan on Kuta, Gili T, Lombok, ubud then Samur. I’m very scared that we are not going to be able to get help with this paper work. We own a vacation house in Pennsylvania and almost own out house in Pennsylvania and have an adequate savings account. This trip is just to get us out of the very cold and snowy winters of January, February and March.
Can someone advise or can be hired for this visa? We are getting close to the dates of departure.
Thank you so very much.
Dear Mrs. Debra, as a US citizen, you can stay for 60 days by entering Indonesian on a Visa On Arrival. This visa requires a USD 35 payment at the Visa On Arrival counter inside the arrival terminal before you proceed to the immigration counter. This USD 35 Visa On Arrival can be extended once by another 30 days while you are in Indonesia.
You can do the extension process yourself or you can use a local agent to assist. One such agent is http://www.visa4bali.com. If you plan to be in Indonesia for more than 60 days they you require a visa before travelling. Have a wonderful trip!
if u have to after 59 days ,book a flight for a day ot 2 to a nearby country then return u get 30 days and pay after then 30 days,im from usa but n w spend my winters in asi a instead of caribeean for 18 years, from phillipines to bali, everycountries in asia visited no problem, can always get a cheap ticket to kuala lumbur for 1-2 nights then return bali,i go bali agin in 2 weeks
Hi Ketut,
I am a British national. If I leave Indonesia and then return before my initial 30 day visa runs out, do you know if they will issue me a second 30 day visa? Or do I need to wait until the full 30 days is up?
Many thanks.
Hi Helen, the tourist visas are single entry. This means that if you leave the country after 15 days, and then return, you will be given a new 30 days from your second arrival.
Hello iam ivorian cityzen im in jakarta this my second entry in indonesia because i have free visa for 30 days so how can i do to extend my visa
You cannot extend the free visa.
Im travelling to Bali Feb 22-April 27 (66 days). How much would it cost in Canadian dollars for a visa?
The payable visa on arrival is USS 35 for the first 30 days and then another USD 35 for the 30 day extension. That is a total 60 day stay. When you enter Bali you need to make sure you stop at the Visa On Arrival counter to buy this 30 day visa. If you head straight to the immigration counter then you will be given the free 30 day visa which is not extendable.
It is being said the fine of overstaying the 30 day tourist visa is being increased to 1 million rupiah per day.
Is this true? And if so, from which date onwards? And are there any official sources stating this? (so far only rumors)
We have heard the same rumours. If it is confirmed we will update our website.

I got denied access to Indonesia because I did not have return ticket. I want to come back in the same day I’m leaving the country.
I already had 2 free visa in te last 3 months.
Would I be denied acces for a third time ? Or is there any maximum free visas you can get per year ?
Thank you much for your answer
There is no law that limits how often you can enter on the free visa. However, if the immigration officer is suspicious of your activities they may block entry with no reason required (e.g. they believe that you may be working here illegally).
We are coming to Bali from Melbourne Australia in 2018 on a 60 day visa obtained from indonesian consulate. We want to stay for another 30 days. Can we go to either Singapore or Darwin for 2 nights and then fly back into Bali for a free 30 days.

I am currently a student in Serbia but I am from Grenada,is the VOA policy still in effect for my country?I read an article a few months ago that said that the list for VOA will be reviewed and that some countries will be removed.I will be coming to Indonesia in a few weeks and am a little unsure. Will it be a problem if I get a visa done here in Serbia?Thank you in advance for your advice.
This post is still up to date as the law on the visa has not changed since.
